The Forward Trust Celebrates Pride Month 2025: Honouring Activism and Social Change

This month is a time to celebrate love, identity, and resilience and acknowledge the important activism that has shaped, and continues to shape, a more inclusive society.
The theme resonates strongly with The Forward Trust’s mission to support people in breaking the cycles of addiction, offending, and disadvantage. Evidence shows that LGBTQ+ individuals are disproportionately affected by substance misuse and mental health challenges. According to a 2023 Drinkaware study, 70% of LGBTQ+ drinkers reported binge drinking, compared to 62% of non-LGBTQ+ drinkers. Similarly, the LGBT Foundation reports that adults in the LGBTQ+ community are approximately four times more likely to have used Class A drugs in the past year than their heterosexual peers.
“At the heart of our work is respect for the unique experiences of every individual who uses our services, which is outlined in our charity mission and our organisational values,” says Mike Trace, CEO of Forward.
“We will find ways to ensure our services offer safe spaces for all who need them. Our mission is to help all people to live positive and fulfilling lives, in whatever way they feel comfortable.”
Throughout Pride Month, The Forward Trust will be highlighting LGBTQ+ voices in recovery, promoting awareness through staff events, and encouraging conversations about identity, inclusion, and change.
The Forward Trust remains committed to being a safe, supportive, and affirming space for EVERYONE. We encourage everyone, including clients, colleagues, partners, and communities, to stand together, listen with empathy, and actively support one another. Creating a more inclusive and compassionate society is something we all have the power to contribute to.
