Starting Strong: Preparing for Employment at Medway’s Employability Day 2025 Workshop

Facilitated by our Adult Skills Trainer Jenny Dungey, the session focused on preparing for the first day at work and strategies to remain in employment.
Key insights from participants:
Participants of the workshop decided on some key ways they can prepare for work and remain in employment. These included:
Remaining confident
Unemployment often leads to anxiety and low self-esteem. Building and maintaining confidence was seen as essential for both securing and sustaining employment.
Building positive habits and routines
Establishing daily routines and habits—like waking up early or preparing for the day—was highlighted as a key success factor. Participants noted that incentives and rewards help reinforce these behaviours.
Looking after yourself
Well-being practices such as getting enough rest, taking walks, and mental recharging were emphasised as crucial for workplace readiness.
Celebrating small wins
Recognising and celebrating small achievements, along with using positive affirmations, helped boost morale and motivation.
Faking it to making it
While some found it challenging to be fully authentic at work, many agreed on the importance of presenting a “professional self” while staying true to their values. Trusting colleagues and managers was also seen as vital.
A huge thank you to all our learners and participants who made this session a success and helped us celebrate Employability Day 2025 with energy and insight!
