Forward Trust Celebrates Clean Air Day 2025 (19 June)

As part of our ongoing commitment to achieve Net Zero emissions, Clean Air Day serves as a reminder of why our mission matters. Air pollution is one of the greatest environmental risks to public health. Through our efforts to reduce carbon emissions across all aspects of our operations, we are taking meaningful steps to contribute to cleaner and healthier air for everyone.

What we’ve achieved so far:

• We’ve reduced our total emissions by over 13% since our 2022 baseline year.
• Scope 1 emissions (direct emissions from vehicles and gas) have dropped by 34%.
• We have reduced business travel emissions by shifting to virtual meetings, thereby reducing unnecessary journeys.
• We are implementing an ISO 14001-accredited Environmental Management System, embedding environmental thinking across all contracts and departments.

Why does clean air matter to us?

Transport and energy use are major contributors to both carbon emissions and local air pollution. Our work in rehabilitation services, community programmes and prisons means we are not just responsible for internal targets. We have a duty to set an example that prioritises the health and wellbeing of our staff, service users and communities.

Looking ahead

As part of our carbon reduction strategy, we aim to:

• Use only renewable energy across our offices.
• Work with suppliers to adopt greener practices.
• Further reduce Scope 3 emissions through sustainable procurement and waste management.
• Align every contract with our Net Zero 2050 target and divert all waste from landfill.
