HMP Elmley

Service delivered in prison
Elmley is a purpose built local prison for un-sentenced and sentenced adult men and un-sentenced male young offenders located in Sheerness, Kent. We deliver psychosocial substance misuse services at this prison.

How we help

We offer a range of psychosocial interventions to help clients address their substance misuse.

  • Stepping Stones – a low-medium intensity intervention for those whose alcohol or drug consumption is at harmful or dependent levels
The Bridge – an intensive abstinence-based programme which outlines the journey to recovery and longer term treatment
  • Alcohol Dependency Treatment Programme (ADTP) – an intensive, abstinence-based programme which aims to reduce reoffending
  • Weekly Wellman Clinic – a supportive and confidential environment for service users to discuss mental and/or physical health issues
  • Vitality workshops – a series of sessions for those who find it difficult to manage their emotions and stay safe in relation to drugs and alcohol
Further interventions
  • Weekly post-programme support groups
  • Weekly psychoactive substances drop-ins
  • Acupuncture
  • Expressive art and relaxation workshops
  • Pre-release planning
  • Individual key working sessions

How to refer

Any prison resident can self-refer to the service. We also accept referrals from third parties. If a staff member or third party refers a resident we will assess the resident if they agree to engage. All residents are seen as part of their induction. We also proactively refer anyone who is suspected of being under the influence or found with illicit substances.
